Keeping your teeth and braces (or other appliances) clean during orthodontic treatment requires a little more effort on your part. For the best results possible, be sure to follow helpful hygiene instructions provided by our staff.
- Brush away bacteria twice a day, every day. And be sure to floss, too. If you don’t brush and floss, your mouth will turn into a bacteria factory and create all sorts of plaque. This can lead to cavities, gum problems and bad breath.
- Also brush your tongue. This removes bacteria and freshens your breath. But don’t be too rough – aggressive brushing can irritate your teeth and gums, as well as loosen braces.
If you have any questions about how to keep your teeth clean while wearing braces, please don’t hesitate to ask us. And be sure to visit your dentist at least twice a year. A dentist can clean all those hiding places around your teeth where bacteria like to hang out and create plaque. Your dentist can also spot potential problems and recommend what’s best for you.
